Premier Flint Hills Restaurant and Bed and Breakfast
The Grand Central Hotel is a 10 guest room historic hotel for sale in Kansas’ scenic Flint Hills region. The Hotel is comprised of an iconic 1884 brick hotel that was renovated and expanded in 1995, adding a commercial kitchen and bed and breakfast lodging. Kansas’ only AAA 4 Diamond hotel for 14 years, this full service inn features a fine dining restaurant, tavern, meeting rooms and beautifully appointed bed and breakfast guest rooms. The restaurant showcases Kansas’ finest beef. The Grand Central Hotel is located in Cottonwood Falls, KS, in the midst of rolling tallgrass ranchland, 4 miles from the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, and 75 miles from Wichita, KS.
The Flint Hills region of Kansas is home to the largest swath of unbroken prairie in North America. Ideal for grazing, the unique geology prevented plowing this vast area during pioneer days. Today, cattle and cowboys roam the wavy hills. One of the world’s largest bison herds lives at the 11,000 acre Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, Kansas’ only National Park. Thousands of visitors come to the Preserve each year, and the Grand Central Hotel is the premier dining and lodging establishment in the area.

The two-floor Grand Central Hotel retains its historic brick façade and vintage character. The 1995 addition, also brick, is L-shaped, creating a protected enclosure around the outdoor dining courtyard. The original façade and interior finishes reflect local history, heightening the hotel’s unique sense of place. Each of the oversized guest rooms is “branded” – named for a local historic ranch.
Within the first floor of the Hotel are two dining rooms with soaring ceilings, a bar and pub area, an office, two rest rooms, two private dining/meeting rooms, and the kitchen. Two of the Hotel’s guest rooms are in the first floor. These large rooms have private outdoor patios and would make excellent owners’ quarters. The other eight guest rooms and a library for guest use are located on the second floor. All guest rooms have private bathrooms, flat screen TVs, telephones and individually controlled heating and cooling. The dining courtyard is enhanced with umbrellas and propane heaters for 3-season use. Guests can stroll and browse the shops of vintage Cottonwood Falls.
Currently, most of the Hotel’s business is in the restaurant. With its location in the heart of the Flint Hills landscape and its versatile range of room choices, the Grand Central Hotel is well positioned for future development of the lodging business: Kansas’ National Scenic Byway 177, an exquisite 47 mile ride through history, passes through Cottonwood Falls, and the Hotel is 2 hours or less from Kansas City, Topeka and Wichita.
